Women's History Month Presentation
Brenda Tate served 40 years on the Pittsburgh Police force but had a troubling life for 20 years (while serving) addicted to drugs and alcohol. Her life had many struggles starting in her childhood.
Brenda recovered after two decades of turmoil and went on to protect dignitaries coming to Pittsburgh as part of the Dignitary Protection Unit including presidents, kings, queens and Rosa Parks and the Dalai Lama! She was one of the first African American women to serve on the police force and the only African American to initially serve on the Dignitary Protection Unit. She is a revered community leader now in retirement, still residing in her historic Hill District.
Join us for a short video and an interactive conversation with Brenda about her struggles & triumphs.
